    • Located in the heart of the mountains, the Pyrenees Animal Park is home to around 100 different species and nearly 500 animals spread over 14 hectares of nature.

The park offers optimal living conditions for the emblematic species of the Pyrenees (brown bears, wolves, marmots, ibex, etc.), but also for species from completely different horizons (red panda, lemurs, gibbons, etc.).

Moreover, the Pyrenees Animal Park is now one of the largest semi-wild animal parks in Europe. This conservation and protection site works to safeguard endangered species and welcomes numerous births and new species each year. This 2023 season, you can come and meet bat-eared bats, bush dogs, and even splendidly colorful birds in the heart of the immersive aviaries.

Possibility of sleeping on site in the three ecolodges (bear, black wolf, gray wolf, etc.) or living the keeper experience for a day close to the animals.

We spent the night in the Bear Den to observe the bears 🐻 It was supposed to be a dream, but we were ultimately quite disappointed. There are three bears in an enclosure that isn't tiny, but still seems small for them. Signs of stress and anxiety related to captivity (in which they were born, after all) are clearly visible (they pace back and forth in ten steps for over an hour). They seem incredibly bored most of the time, and we felt quite bad for them. There are no objects for them to interact with; they just walk around in circles. I don't really understand why this place is called a "park" and not a "zoo," because other equally green places clearly advertise themselves as "zoo." So we were quite disappointed in that respect. We had read "semi-freedom" on the website and were expecting something different. Also, the shower is dirty; we were a little afraid to go in barefoot. And then, at €530 a night, dinner and breakfast were truly disappointing. The fridge was full, but everything was extra; you were only entitled to two mini orange juices and a small bottle of milk. It's worth noting that a vegetarian option for dinner was advertised online, but upon arrival, we learned we should have requested it beforehand... So it was a platter of pâté/chorizo and beef soup... too bad for me, oh well. Dietary preferences aside, the food quality wasn't good at all anyway. I think it would be more appropriate to remove the "half-board" designation and simply tell people to bring dishes they can microwave in their room (perhaps selling them at the snack bar at the park entrance or in the pay-per-use minibar instead of the 15 different bottles of alcohol). And in the end, the bears are much more visible from the park's main visitor path than from the hotel room window, from which they mostly keep their distance. To end on a positive note, the enclosures are beautifully designed. They replicate the animals' natural habitat (rocks, trees, pools, etc.). Everything is very green; it's a far cry from a zoo with concrete enclosures. But still, three bears pacing around is rather heartbreaking. Waking up to the bears at the window remains magical, and we can say that the high cost of the night helps support the animals' well-being there.

A must-see. This magnificent park, built into the cliffside, showcases animal species rarely found in zoos. Very clean and well-presented. They are very committed to animal welfare, and your visit will only help their cause. Wear walking shoes.

A really good park loved how you could play with the parrots and hope to go again as we lacked time. I highly recommend it even if you don’t watch the shows.
