Argelès-Gazost, a small village located a few kilometers from Lourdes, is our destination for the day. We park in the car parks at the bottom of the village. We have to walk up one of the small streets leading to the town center; there is an elevator for people with reduced mobility. From the car parks, the elevator is indicated by a red sign.

We arrive directly at the town hall square in Argelès-Gazost where the weekly market takes place: every Tuesday ! Local produce, vegetables, meats, cheeses, breads … Village markets are truly delightful! It's the best way to discover or rediscover these products from a rich and unique land.

We then head towards the Jacques Chancel terrace, which offers all its visitors a superb view of the lower town and the Pyrenees. Hautacam, the Pic du Soulon, and many other mountains (and wonders!) are right in front of us! A true gem of nature that one can contemplate for long minutes. Behind us, the Tour de Mendaigne and a small restaurant where it's a pleasure to eat, summer or winter, with this panorama changing with the seasons.

The Argelès-Gazost valley is also magnificent to explore!

If you've got a little time on your hands, don't hesitate to continue your escapade to Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre, less than 30 km away, where the Grottes de Bétharram await you for an unforgettable adventure. During a 1h20 guided tour, you'll have the privilege of admiring sublime limestone concretions with astonishing shapes that dazzle young and old alike, before descending 250 steps to glide down a magnificent underground river. The tour ends with a short train ride, leaving you with a memorable souvenir of a unique journey through the underground world.

The tourist office is also located in this square. If it's not open, don't worry, there's a digital kiosk nearby providing all the information 24/7. We now push open the door of the Church of Saint-Saturnin. It's a church with simple but very pretty architecture. It blends in perfectly with the atmosphere of the small mountain village!

Argelès-Gazost is a good stopover for your stay in the Hautes-Pyrénées, far from the noise of big cities and close to all the remarkable and unmissable sites of the Hautes-Pyrénées.

It's a very charming village that, even in winter, offers all the warmth you need for a great ski holiday ! The shopkeepers are friendly, and the locals are always happy to give you directions... Life is good in Argelès-Gazost!
