“A JOURNEY INTO THE UNDERGROUND WORLD OF PIC DU JER”

The guided tour of the highest developed caves in France will take you into the underground gallery of Pic du Jer, on an easily accessible 360-meter-long route.

HISTORY OF THE CAVES

20,000 years ago, as the glaciers melted, water seeped in and dug out the summit of the Pic du Jer. Rock debris was deposited and blocked the bottom of the chasms as well as the natural opening at the start of the visit, leaving only a few meters of passage accessible. Work was then undertaken to connect the various crevasses and natural cavities located below the summit of the Pic. The caves have been open to the public since 1958.

THE VISIT IN BRIEF

The 11 rooms make up the tour along the 360-meter gallery. You can admire concretions from the oldest to the most recent (stalactites, stalagmites and draperies) and you will be impressed by the chasms (the deepest 45 meters). You will pass in front of large faults, testifying to the formation of the Pyrenees.

As you leave the gallery, you will be offered a landscape reading, concluding this wonderful discovery of the underground world.

We have educational information sheets. The price for the funicular ride is €4.50/child (under 17 years old) 1 accompanying adult free for groups of 8 or more children.
