The Jacobin Convent is a religious building located in the city center of Toulouse. It is a group of southern Gothic buildings, built between the 13th and 14th centuries by the Order of Preachers, also known as the Jacobins.

History

Founded in 1229, the convent is a remarkable example of Gothic architecture in southern France. The convent was the seat of the Inquisition from the late 13th century.

Its church is famous for its “ palm grove ”, a series of columns that support the vaults, creating the impression of a stone forest.

The Jacobin Convent also housed the relics of Saint Thomas Aquinas in 1368.

Today, the convent is a major cultural venue in Toulouse. It hosts concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events.

The cloister and the refectory are places of relaxation and contemplation.
