At the crossroads of Haute-Garonne, Aude, and Tarn, the Lauragais region abounds with splendid landscapes : long known as the "Grain House of Languedoc," it was also the land of woad cultivation, a dye plant that brought wealth to the region in the 16th century. But today, the jewel of the Lauragais is undoubtedly the Canal du Midi that runs through it.

A hike in the Lauragais region, accessible to the whole family

Today, we're going for a walk : a 12-kilometer hike towards Lake Thesauque, doable in an afternoon (about 3.5 hours at a family pace), and accessible to everyone since it only has 58 meters of elevation gain. Lake Thesauque is a recreational area located in Montgeard. In summer, it's a very pleasant place to escape the heat of the city center, dip your toes in the water, and have fun on the inflatable water park. You can hike there year-round to enjoy its beautiful scenery.

Nearby, after your walk, head to Nailloux for a shopping break! Meet at the outlet village.

Grab your backpack and water bottle, let's go! The starting point is the church in the village of Seyre. You can easily park your car in the town hall parking lot. The entire route is marked with small yellow signs, so there's no risk of getting lost.

Throughout the walk, you'll discover the surrounding countryside along small dirt paths. If you take this walk in summer, you'll cross entire fields of magnificent sunflowers, like so many in the region. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the landscapes of the Montagne Noire in the Tarn and the Pyrenees.

Lake Thesauque: a pure moment of relaxation surrounded by nature

At the end of the walk, a lovely surprise awaits: Lake Thesauque. This peaceful haven, nestled between the charming villages of Nailloux and Montgeard, offers a host of activities for all ages. An interpretive trail circles the lake, covering approximately 5.6 kilometers, and provides opportunities to discover the local flora on foot or by bicycle. Canoes, pedal boats, and paddleboards are also available for rent at the Aquaparc Lauraguais leisure center.

The wildlife is also abundant; you might spot donkeys, ducks, and geese, but the lake's biggest draw is undoubtedly the variety of fish found there. Attention fishing enthusiasts! But be warned, a fishing permit is required (available for purchase at Camping de la Thesauque ).
