At the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, Gavarnie, like its close neighbors of Troumouse and Estaubé, are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Gavarnie is first and foremost a mountain village, with its 12th century church in the Romanesque style, and the circus in the background, one of the most beautiful and grandiose panoramas, with no less than sixteen peaks of 3000 m.
It is Victor Hugo who speaks of it best: “It is a mountain and a wall at the same time. It is the most mysterious building of architects. It is nature's Colosseum; it's Gavarnie. ". Sculpted by nature, it is one of the largest glacial sites in Europe. It is reached on foot from the village. Allow two hours of walking, round trip. The village is also the starting point for many hikes, more or less sporty.
Gèdre is a small village in the Hautes-Pyrénées near Spain. Its territory goes beyond the circuses of Troumouse and Estaubé. Gavarnie and Gèdre form, since 2016, a single municipality. This territory offers an exceptional natural heritage and remarkable landscapes to all its visitors.
