Useful information

Location : À la montagne

Province : Hautes Pyrénées - From Tarbes to the plateau de Lannemezan

  • English
    • It is the most visited of the French National Parks. It straddles two departments: the Hautes-Pyrénées and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. There are more than 160 floral species and a multitude of remarkable faunal species such as large birds of prey to be observed on the multitude of marked trails that make up its 200,000 hectares of nature.

      45,000 hectares in its center are completely uninhabited and reserved for nature. The peripheral areas, which are made up of small villages, collaborate with nature to reconcile human activities with respect for the environment.

      If you like mountain lakes, this is the perfect place to go hiking, as there are around 230 high-altitude lakes here as well as the highest peaks in the Pyrenees (in France).

      Several towns have National Park houses to help you plan your itineraries:

      • In Arrens-Marsous in the Val d'Azun;
      • Cauterets;
      • Gavarnie-Gèdre;
      • Luz-Saint-Sauveur;
      • Saint-Lary in the Aure Valley.

    I contacted this establishment by email for an elementary school assignment and never received a response. Very disappointed.
