PYRENEES NATIONAL PARK Natural sites in Tarbes

It is the most visited of the French national park. It straddles 2 departments: the Hautes Pyrénées and the Pyrénées Atlantiques. There are more than 160 floral species, and a multitude of remarkable faunistic species such as large birds of prey to be observed on the multitude of marked trails that comprise its 200,000 hectares of nature. 45,000 hectares in its center are completely uninhabited and reserved for nature, the peripheral areas, which are made up of small villages, collaborate with nature to reconcile human activities with respect for the environment.

If you like mountain lakes this is the perfect place to go hiking, as there are around 230 altitude lakes as well as the highest peaks of the Pyrenees (in France).

Several towns have National Park houses to help you organize your routes, in Arrens-Marsous in the Val d´Azun, Cauterets, Gavarnie-Gèdre, Luz-Saint-Sauveur and Saint-Lary in the Aure Valley.
