    • The visited part of the caves extends over 2.8 km with an impressive drop of 80 m. The underground course of the river is 3.5 km.

The visitor enters the mountain through a natural opening: the upper part includes vast rooms rich in concretions. The chasm connects this level to that of the river. The lower part follows a natural fault, witness to the work of the water.

The visitor exits through an artificial tunnel dug from 1913 to 1924.

The Betharram Caves are located in two departments: you enter through the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and come out through the Hautes-Pyrénées.

Currently, visitors are welcomed to a large shaded car park with 500 spaces for passenger cars. A shuttle then takes them to the entrance to the caves located 2 km above.

The Betharram Caves are also a unique place. Opened to the public in 1903, they offer a great diversity which makes it an essential place. Discover the inner beauty of the mountain and discover this series of caves on foot, by boat and by little train!

After having made the visit, the small train which transports them, stops in front of a magnificent building built in 1924, one of the very first in France in reinforced concrete.

In this hall, souvenirs, minerals, fossils and postcards are offered for the visitor's appreciation.

The underground circuit ends near the parking lot for cars and coaches.

This remarkable underground wonderland is undoubtedly a must-visit. One thing to note is that this attraction can get incredibly busy during the peak holiday season. However, my visit was during the off-season, and I couldn't have been more pleased. There were no queues, and we effortlessly embarked on our subterranean journey. The entire experience lasts approximately an hour and a half. What truly sets this place apart is the availability of an underground boat and train ride. Information is available in multiple languages.

Absolutely hands down the most coolest and incredible cave formations I’ve ever seen. We were driven to the caves which was a plus, the tout guide has an audiobook in English for my family who doesn’t understand French. Found some incredible gems myself while exploring so I was amazed and the history as well we learned was interesting. We took a boat and a train at the end of the tour. Really incredible! I recommend 100% I loved the bathrooms too so cool!

What an amazing experience. The caves are stunning and the tour guide is fantastic. Although we were the only ones from England he took his time to translate everything for us at each step of the tour. The train ride that concludes the end of the tour is particularly awesome, my kids absolutely loved it. Parking and toilets available on the spot. Clean and affordable tickets. Would definitely go back ❤️🇫🇷

This place is cool if you don’t have claustrophobia at all! I managed the first level but after going 300 steps down and then realising it was getting narrower and we had to descend further it was...

This is the worst experience at a tourist attraction that I have ever had. We queued to get a coach to the cave, queued to buy tickets (67.50 euros for a family of 5) and queued to begin the tour...
