    • The Caves of Médous are divided into two parts: a lower gallery called "Dry Gallery" and an upper one "Wonder Gallery".

The richness of the concretions, the beauty of the underground river, the structure of the cave, the exceptional location of the entrance enjoying a unique setting and easy access are all elements that ensure a first-rate tourist value.

All along the route, you can discover the most diverse concretions : Stalactites, Stalagmites, Eccentric, Columns or Gours and Petrified Cascades.

If Medus is considered today as a remarkable tourist site, the places have already known over the centuries a notoriety of another kind. Until the end of the 18th century, it was a place of pilgrimage following the apparition of the Virgin Mary to a small shepherdess named Liloye. The miraculous reputation Médous had acquired made the site one of the three most important shrines dedicated to Marian worship in the diocese of Tarbes-Lourdes. With the smallest chapel on the site, dedicated to Our Lady of Medous, in October 2000 at the initiative of the Bishop of Tarbes-Lourdes, the pilgrimage took place as part of the Jubilee Year events.

Before visiting the caves of Médous, you will enter the green park, the starting point and end point of this unforgettable visit. There are beautiful trees shading many streams fed by a semi-circular basin. This basin stops the water from the spring gushing out in waves from 2 neighbouring cavities.

An amazing cave. Not what you would expect based on the website and leaflets. This is probably one of the best caves we have visited in France so far. The variety of formations is amazing and the knowledge the guides have is exceptional (just make sure to let them know if you’re not a French speaker). The visit culminates in a short boat ride down the underground river showing off various formations.

Fascinating cave with original stalactites and stalagmites plus curtains and other interesting formations. Finishing up with a short boat trip made the experience complete. Guide was friendly and well informed.
