A territory and charming towns to discover

Panorama, pretty rivers… the Volvestre is like a painting with several levels of interpretation: towns with cachet and heritage, nature walks to do in all seasons and in the distance, the Pyrenees. Flirting with Ariège, Volvestre is multiple, interesting… Rieux-Volvestre, Montesquieu-Volvestre, Carbonne, Sainte-Croix Volvestre and Sainte-Croix Volvestre are the main towns. You will enjoy walking there to discover the heritage, the small restaurants and the surrounding nature.

Take a walk in Rieux-Volvestre

A pretty medieval village, where a pleasant walk takes you back in time. Pink bricks to remember the proximity of Toulouse, beautiful half - timbered houses... It is a former bishopric, you will see the episcopal treasure there as well as an amusing museum on the Papogay, a kind of arch... The Lapidaire museum offers you as for him, the discovery of a collection of minerals and vestiges of the history of the city.

Montesquieu Volvestre

Discover Montesquieu-Volvestre, a pretty bastide on the edge of the department. You are not far from Maz D'Azil and its caves! In this city, it is walking that is valued, Saint James tourism flourishes there, there is a nice 2h30 walk to do. It is mild in this pleasant city during the off-season. Visit the market hall and its Tuesday morning market, the Saint-Victor church, the city ramparts, and the pretty Barrau mill.

It is a dynamic bastide and the seat of the Community of Communes, it is located along the Garonne. Visit the pretty museum of the sculptor André Abbal, as well as the Ferrery mill. Walk around and look up at the half-timbered houses. Climb to the wood of stone to enjoy the panorama, visit the beautiful red brick church of Saint-Laurent Church.

Martres-Tolosane

With its round shape, at the gates of Comminges, make it very attractive. Take a walk to discover the ramparts and the dungeon, the castle and especially the famous earthenware of the city! An archaeological museum awaits you, as well as many walks in the surroundings.

Rivers

We go back to the north of the territory of Volvestre to discover Rieumes which also happens to be in the territory of Savès, the south of Toulouse. Very well located, it is an interesting city for a half-city, half-nature holiday. Its origins date back to the Gallic period, it was in turn a village, then Castelnau, then bastide and chief town of the canton. Stroll through the Rieumes forest, see the windmill tower, the old water tower and in town, the half-timbered houses, the market hall, the bell tower of the chapel.
