Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, perched on a rocky peak overlooking the Garonne, is a medieval town with a rich historical past. Formerly the Roman capital of Lugdunum Convenarum, it was an important religious center in the Middle Ages.

Its crown jewel is the imposing Sainte-Marie Cathedral, a masterpiece of Southern Gothic art, housing magnificent sculpted Renaissance stalls. Adjacent to the cathedral is the Saint-Julien Chapel, a remnant of the old Romanesque church.
