The thermal waters of Bagnères-de-Luchon, thanks to their very high sulfur content, are renowned for rheumatological and respiratory care. They are tapped by deep boreholes to preserve their properties, and emerge at very high temperatures. It is estimated that these thermal waters have been circulating and gorging themselves with precious minerals in contact with the subterranean rock for almost 14,000 years. The thermal baths of Bagnères-de-Luchon are among the most elegant and renowned in France. Set in a mountain setting, the "Queen of the Pyrenees" attracts curists every year to enjoy not only the waters, but also the spa's particularly invigorating and relaxing environment. It's a place for tourism, sport and leisure. The Thermes de Luchon are getting a facelift, so come and see what's new for health spa treatments and the "Ressourcez & Vous" area for pleasure!

The most sulphurous waters of the Pyrenees

The history of the Thermes de Luchon goes back to the time of the Romans, great lovers of the pleasures of water in all their forms. The first thermal pools date back to antiquity and it is therefore for almost 2000 years that the properties of these most sulfurous waters of the Pyrenees have been exploited. It was in the 18th and 19th centuries that the fame of the city was at its peak and several establishments were built to receive spa guests in search of health or simply pleasure. At the end of the 19th century, the many specialists who analyzed the waters were able, with experience and technological advances, to offer all sorts of facilities (spraying in the vaporarium, humage, insufflation, poultices, etc.) to extract the best from the waters and treat the respiratory tract, the ENT sphere, rheumatic affections… Open to young and old, spa treatments require a medical prescription to be taken care of.

Completely renovated and redesigned spaces

After two years of renovation work, all the areas dedicated to spa treatments have now been refurbished and made available for the provision of a wide range of high-quality spa treatments.
Luchon is one of the few spas in France to offer the full range of existing rheumatology treatments based on thermal water or mud, i.e. 14 different treatments.
New, rich and varied treatment paths have been defined in close collaboration with the resort's spa doctors. All treatments are governed by a contractual framework that regulates their duration, their reimbursement by Social Security and guarantees their therapeutic benefits.
In addition to a new, fluid and coherent curiste itinerary, the Thermes de Luchon now feature the latest generation of treatment stations, enabling staff to concentrate on the patient : helping him/her settle in, explaining the treatment, ensuring that it is carried out correctly... A further step towards high-quality, patient-focused medical thermalism.

THE NATURAL VAPORARIUM : LUCHON'S HEALTH TRUMP CARD

It's a treatment found nowhere else. In Luchon, spa-goers have 10 minutes' daily access to Europe's only natural vaporarium (with a doctor's prescription). They enter a cave with 150 meters of tunnels, formerly used to collect sulfurous water. Here, the temperature varies between 38° and 42°C, and humidity reaches 95%.
