      A bit of history

      Carla-Bayle is an ancient Huguenot citadel, perched on a rocky peak at an altitude of around 400 metres.

      The village was fortified in the 12th century and its strategic location provides panoramic views of the Lèze and Arize valleys as well as the Pyrenees.

      It is famous for being the birthplace of Enlightenment philosopher Pierre Bayle (1647-1706). His birthplace has been transformed into a museum to give visitors an insight into his life and work.
