Luz-Saint-Sauveur is a mountain village, with its fortified Saint André church, renowned for its thermal baths appreciated by Eugénie and Napoleon III who had a bridge built in 1860 to extend the road from Saint Sauveur to Gavarnie.
Luz-Saint-Sauveur is ideally located at the crossroads of the Tourmalet and Pierrefitte roads. Toy means “small” in Catalan, like the fifteen perched villages (Viscos, Sazos, Viella, Viey, Sers…) in the surrounding area.
