With its 36 km slopes, renowned for its snow cover, the Cauterets winter sports resort and its cirque du Lys area are the ideal place for the practice of alpine skiing and snowboard. The station is only 30 minutes from Lourdes. From the city center, you take the Lys cable cars (15 minutes), then the Grand Barbat chairlift to get to an altitude of 2300 m in 25 minutes, 'where you rub shoulders with the high peaks with an exceptional view of the Pic du Midi, Vignemale, the Péguère and the Balaïtous.
Cauterets became a ski resort in the 1960s. For cross-country skiing (36.5 km of trails), as for the snowshoe hike (6 km of marked trails) through the pine forests, we prefer Cauterets Pont d'Espagne which however has 3 alpine ski slopes and a toboggan run.
Cauterets is also acclaimed for its attractive village with entertainment, activities to do off the slopes and a fun spa and treatment center: The Bains du Rocher.
