Looking at the calendar and feeling a pang of nostalgia? Chin up! Indian summer in Ariège is a wonderful opportunity for a holiday. The weather is still beautiful and warm ; you can stroll around in a T-shirt, dip your toes in the river, and enjoy a hint of summer in the air. In the evenings, it's cooler, and you can appreciate the mild temperatures without the sweltering heat. Ready for a holiday in Ariège, just as the start of the school year looms? Let's head to Couserans !

Saint Girons

Nature is the star of the holidays

The trees are already changing color, the light punctuated with magnificent touches of orange. Sunsets at this time of year are unparalleled, because the light is low yet still brilliant, nature is shimmering and still lush! It's the perfect time for hiking and strolling through the countryside. The mountains are welcoming, as are the locals!

We offer nature getaways in the Couserans. This region in the west of the department borders Haute-Garonne, which explains its Gascon character. The landscape is hilly, to say the least, in this region with its 18 valleys ! Just what you need for your hiking boots and backpack ! The Couserans is a preserved region, some might even say isolated, but that's not entirely accurate, as Saint-Girons, the largest town in this part of Ariège, is only an hour and twenty minutes by car from Toulouse. The Ariège Pyrenees Regional Natural Park awaits you, and to recover from all these adventures, perhaps you'll take a few relaxing days at the Aulus-les-Bains thermal baths ?

We go for walks, we go hiking

Around Bethmale, the town famous for its delicious cheese (be sure to try it!), you'll enjoy landscapes of emerald-colored lakes, reflecting the surrounding foothills. Take a trip to Lake Bethmale, at an altitude of over 1,000 meters, where fishing is popular and the beech forest bordering the lake is a perfect place to recharge. Around Ayet, just a few minutes away, there are medium and long-distance hikes for those who enjoy a good walk. Several peaks share the spotlight: Cap de Bouirex, Mont Valier, and Montagne du Barlonguère. Follow the guide!

On the side of La Bastide-De-Sérou, which is a well-located holiday resort (not far from the capital of the region: Foix, beautiful walks await you towards Lake Mondely which you can walk around and enjoy a stop for a picnic with a beautiful view of the hills.

The tour of Gariné (the name of a Pouch, a hill) is interesting because it is educational, a beautiful 3-hour loop that starts in the village.

Another 2.5-hour loop towards the hills overlooking the city, in the direction of Joseph's Chapel.

Mountain biking enthusiasts can take a ride to Saint-Girons via the Foix greenway.

A fun family activity in the Seix region is caving ! Have you ever visited the inside of a cave ? Accompanied by a professional, you'll be completely safe. They'll explain the local geology and take you inside the earth to appreciate its coolness, darkness, and silence

Chasms, underground rivers, beginners and experienced enthusiasts alike will find something in this region to discover a new activity or pursue their passion!

Not far from Seix, we recommend you take a look at the Grenier à Jambons, artisan charcutiers and farm producers to discover a traditional know-how.

Discover the Biros Valley, a magnificent natural setting for family hikes as well as steep peaks for the more professional and well-equipped! Classified as a Natura 2000 site, it is a magical place for observing the wildlife of the Ariège Pyrenees Regional Natural Park.
