Ski resort for all levels in the Pyrenees

In Gavarnie-Gèdre, the star attraction is the snow. With exceptional natural snowfall and a fresh, high-quality snowpack, discover an enticing playground for alpine skiing enthusiasts and those who simply love the beauty of the mountains in winter.

The Gavarnie-Gèdre region, encompassing the Mont Perdu massif, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its dual cultural and natural value. This rare distinction underscores the exceptional character of this natural environment. For this reason, since the ski resort opened in 1971, a carefully planned and controlled development has been implemented to preserve these invaluable treasures, including the Cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse, and Estaubé. The region also holds the "Grand Site Occitanie" label: you can be sure you're coming on holiday to a truly unique place.

In fact, Gavarnie is said to be the cradle of Pyreneism. This genuine and holistic love of the steep and bountiful mountains brings sporting and spiritual benefits to those who climb them.

The second major advantage of Gavarnie-Gèdre is its breathtaking views... You are facing some of the highest and most iconic peaks in the Pyrenees, such as the Brèche de Roland.

In 2021, Gavarnie-Gèdre celebrated its 50th anniversary, half a century rich in history, during which the resort has hosted some of the most daring skiers. Gavarnie-Gèdre is the epicenter of speed skiing in the Pyrenees : it was here, in 1985, that brothers Bruno and Jean-Lou Montès organized the first speed skiing event in the Pyrenees. In 2022, a French Open and two FIS European Cups will take place at the resort, thrilling the hearts of snow sports enthusiasts 37 years later.

A station for everyone, for beginners and those who progress.

Gavarnie-Gèdre offers a wonderful selection of enjoyable slopes, while maintaining a human scale. Perhaps you took your first steps in the snow here, learned to use a ski lift, or made your first turns? You'll love going with your children, whatever their age, or with friends for a friendly stay where the pleasure of the sport isn't spoiled by long queues. The smooth operation of the lifts promises a day of pure bliss on the slopes. Here, everyone skis at their own pace and with respect. Come and marvel at the unspoiled nature, and solemnly contemplate the majestic power of the immense mountains that rise in the distance.

The Gavarnie-Gèdre ski area comprises 25 downhill ski runs spread over 32km and served by 7 lifts (2 chairlifts and 5 drag lifts). This is a good distribution, allowing beginners to progress and have fun once they reach a good level. The runs are divided into 5 green, 10 blue, 6 red, and 4 black.

The resort is also home to the longest green run in the Pyrenees, Les Marmottes, where even the youngest skiers can confidently descend. It's also beginning its transformation, the first step towards more fun, with the installation of playful modules, a treasure hunt on the slopes, and a fun speed ramp. All this so that the whole family can enjoy themselves, including beginners. As skiers progress at their own pace, chairlifts provide access to more complex and technical slopes. In just a few minutes, you can find yourself speeding down the slope all the way to the bottom of the runs.

After skiing or instead: Mountain leisure activities in Gavarnie-Gèdre

If you love mountain activities, whether you prefer cross-country skiing or hiking, snowshoeing is for you! Two free ski touring trails, designed to traverse stunning landscapes, are available. They offer varying levels of difficulty so everyone can safely discover this challenging yet rewarding sport. Once you feel comfortable and want to increase the elevation gain or extend your hike, two more challenging trails await you.

Put on your snowshoes with family or friends and follow the marked trails, which are available to you free of charge.

Another activity: sledding. A special track is dedicated to this activity at the bottom of the slopes. It's easily accessible and free, allowing even the youngest children to experience their first thrills of sliding. Don't have a sled? Rent a snow tube and have fun sliding down the slopes on your stomach or bottom, with lots of laughter!
