The Toulouse Palace of Justice is an architectural complex that bears witness to the city's evolution over the centuries.

A rich and complex history

The site of the Palace of Justice has a history dating back to Roman times, with the presence of the Narbonne Gate, one of the main entrances to the city of Tolosa.
In the Middle Ages, it housed the castle of the Counts of Toulouse, before becoming the seat of the Parliament of Toulouse during the Renaissance.
The current buildings are the result of multiple constructions and renovations, spanning from the 15th century to the present day.

A historical monument

Part of the Court of Appeal of the Palais de Justice has been listed as a historic monument since 1999.
The unclassified parts of the Court of Appeal, as well as the Assize Court and the High Court, have been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 1994.

Archaeological remains

The Palais de Justice houses an archaeological crypt, where you can discover remains from different periods of Toulouse's history, including elements of the Narbonne gate, the Roman road and the castle of the Counts of Toulouse.
